The flood of 1964 was a life altering natural disaster for many Blackfeet people of that time and there a many survivors to this day that remember that fateful event. There's a day which honors that day and made official by resolution passed by the Blackfeet Tribal Business Council. I'm currently unsure when that resolution was passed but as I learn more, I'm sure I will discover when it was made an official memorial day of the Blackfeet Reservation.
The Flood Memorial will be commemorated Tuesday, June 8, 2021. This event is presented by the Blackfeet Tribe in front of the Museum of Plains Indians. The event will be comprised of the military veteran honor guards, Blackfeet honor songs with drummers and singers, speakers from the Blackfeet Tribal Business Council and survivors of the flood. A feed usually follows the ceremony but the Covid-19 contact rules may end event without the feed.
